Musings on a Sunday!!

It's been a long long time since I posted something on my blog. A lot of thoughts cross my mind and I often think I have a lot to say about something, but I somehow haven't gotten down to putting things up on the blog. So here's a collection of some random thoughts that keep coming back to me every now and then:

I am amazed at:

  • The serenity that the rains bring to the mind. Even when it's raining cats and dogs and its chaotic out on the roads
  • The way we fall back on old friends as we grow older, even if we've not been in touch for a while
  • The way some people are able to express very complex thoughts through a movie... 'Inception' is a good case in point
  • The stability that marriage brings into life
  • The way an afternoon nap refreshes me on weekends
  • The way nothing ever works for you during certain phases of life and everything goes in your favour during other phases of life
  • The way I am habituated to putting things down in bullet points like this!!
I am tired of:

  • The way mediocrity has become a way of life in India. We can't build good roads in our major cities, we aren't even concerned about cutting a sorry face in front of the world when the commonwealth games begin and all our sub-standard facilities and infrastructure would be out in the open for all to see and report in their respective countries
  • The sheer apathy of the powers that be towards the crumbling infrastructure in our major cities, while they seem to have all the time, money and resources to change city names, rename airports and flyovers, encourage people who promote regional fanaticism and deploy people for absolutely destructive activities like organizing a bandh, vandalizing theaters, buses, trains and offices
  • The way I regain weight lost over a few weeks in just a couple of days

The one thing in my opinion that sets test cricket apart from other sports is the time span for which players need to keep up their concentration and energy. While games like football and even T20 cricket are exciting because there is a flurry of activity every minute, I personally think test cricket is a tougher test of a player's skills, both mental and physical. World Cup Musings

The Cricket world cup begins in just over a week in the West Indies. Cricket's biggest event is all set to keep all us cricket lovers engaged for the next couple of months. It's always interesting to note the performances of different teams leading up to the world cup and see what kind of form they are in. If we look at teams that have some semblance of a chance to win the cup, the list would probably comprise Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. Let us have a look at these teams and their chances. Beginning with the defending champions - Australia, they seem a bit out of sorts at the moment. Some of their key players have suffered major injuries, which is sure to affect their chances at the world cup. A month back, they were most certainly the favourites. Love you Dad

There is a lot written and spoken about the selfless love a mother has for her child. I couldn't agree more on that. I really think it's true that God created mothers because He could not be everywhere. On the other hand, I believe that fathers are not given the importance they deserve. Poor dad is always the one you turn to when faced with a problem, or a shortage of money, or when you need to take a major decision. Somehow, dad is not the first one you share your biggest joys with. I guess I am at a stage where I can impartially view the behaviour of children towards their parents and parents towards the children. I am able to empathize with kids because I was there not too long ago. I am also able to see the viewpoint of parents as I grow older. I think men age faster than women in the mind, because of which, by the time a child reaches his teens, he is able to associate more with the mother. He feels a generation gap with his father.
