My little 'sage'
Drafted this on 18 July 2014, posting it today (26 Aug)
Rishi is now over seven and a half months old and I am still quite besotted with him. My whole fascination with the guy started the day he was born in Pai Hospital and I had the opportunity to carry him around through most of the day, since Deepa hadn't quite recovered her health.
It really is a fascinating experience to have a small kid at home. He keeps learning new things and coming up with new antics all the time. When he was born, he had a very cute, broken way of crying, much like staccato notes. He had this habit of shielding his face with his left hand, with the thumb folded in, so as to form a '4' with his hand. When Deepa fed him, he would raise both his hands above his head and link them while feeding. Also, just before starting his feed, he would open his mouth and shake his head vigorously from left to right. All of these are very fond remembrances now and he has more or less stopped all of it now, just showing us the odd glimpse once in a while.
A couple of months later, he developed this habit of 3 loud gasps before starting to cry loudly. Fans have always fascinated him. Even in Pai hospital, he would stare at the ceiling fans endlessly. I think he starting recognizing faces in his 4th month and he produced this beautiful, toothless grin when he saw Deepa or me. It was also around this time that he started to suck on his own fingers. He had this amazing ability to interlink the fingers of both his hands and insert nearly all of them into his mouth at once. He also drooled continuously at this stage and his shirts were invariably all wet in the collar and neck area.
With the months passing by, his cuteness only seems to increase. He has a very charming smile and very intelligent eyes. He is also very social and seems to be wanting people around him all the time. He also goes to people easily, quite unlike his father!! The only surprise for me so far is that he simply refused to go to Ganesh.
I can keep writing about his antics - the way his mouth opens in an oval when he is excited, the way he straightens his legs and interlocks the big toes of both feet when he is happy, the way he trashes his hands and legs in excitement when I return from office, the way he tries to put his big toe in his mouth etc etc.
I am still very fascinated by him and I love to gaze at him even while he's asleep. I just pray to God that he continues to be a pleasant and lovable person as he grows up.
